Child Development Lab

Information for Parents

Is your child 2 years of age or older?

Do they enjoy playing board games or doing activities on the computer?

If so, we invite your child to participate in a research project where they will play fun educational games that can greatly help us understand how children learn!

The Child Development Lab at Kent State University has studies year round for children 2 years of age and older.

During your visit, our researchers will play thinking games with your child. Sessions last 20 minutes and your child will receive a small gift for their participation!

What to expect

We collaborate with several local daycares, preschools, and elementary schools in Northeast Ohio. If your child attends a school that we partner with you may receive a letter asking your permission to include your child in one of our studies. We also invite families to come and participate in studies on-campus. If you are interested in having your child participate in an on-campus study you can contact our research team directly (childdevelopment.ksu@gmail.com) to schedule an appointment.

Your child’s participation is completely voluntary. Children will play thinking games with well-trained and friendly research assistants in our laboratory or in your child’s school. The thinking games last approximately 20 minutes. Your child will receive a small gift for their participation.

How can you sign up?

If you received a letter from your child’s school and you would like your child to participate you can simply sign and return the consent form to your child’s school. If you would like to participate in an on-campus study please email the lab directly (childdevelopment.ksu@gmail.com) so we can set up an appointment at your convenience. Parking is free and siblings are welcome to come along, as babysitters are available. We hope you will help us explore this exciting area of child development!
