Dr. Karrie Godwin
Karrie Godwin is an Associate Professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Dr. Godwin earned her Ph.D. in Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University where she was also an IES fellow in the Program for Interdisciplinary Education Research (PIER). She also holds a M.Ed. in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard University. Her research examines how cognitive and environmental factors shape children’s development and learning in the laboratory and in the classroom. Her research interests include the development of attention, executive function, language acquisition, and categorization.

Freya Kaur
Freya Kaur is a fifth-year graduate student in the Applied Development Psychology program. She earned her B.A. in Psychology with a concentration in Child Psychology from Kent State University. Her research interests are to investigate the effects of attentional decay and mind wandering on learning of children. She is also interested in identifying instruction activities that help maintain attention and reduce mind wandering. She has 8+ years of experience working with children in Pre-K through 6th grade.
Maryrose Gardiner
Maryrose Gardiner is a first-year graduate student in the Applied Developmental Psychology program. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Delaware. Her current research interests include the rapid technological advances and how this impacts the attention span in children in early development and school age. She is also interested in investigating visual noise in classrooms to optimize children’s learning in early schooling years. She has over 2 years of experience in early developmental research, and over 4 years of experience with children ages 6 months to 6 years.
Praveen Kumaravelan
Praveen Kumaravelan is a third-year graduate student in the Applied Developmental Psychology program. He earned his M.A. in Developmental Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. At Teachers College, Praveen led a research project to test numerical cognition in preschool children using an online interface. His research interests encompass early cognitive development, with a focus on the intersection between executive functioning and learning. He has 3+ years of tutoring experience ranging from kindergarten to undergraduate studies.
