Lab Director

 

 

Dr. Karrie Godwin

Karrie Godwin holds a joint appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department and research faculty with the Sherman Center for Early Learning in Urban Communities at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She earned her Ph.D. in Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University where she was also an IES fellow in the Program for Interdisciplinary Education Research. She also holds a M.Ed. in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard University. Her research examines how cognitive and environmental factors shape children’s development and learning in the laboratory and in the classroom. Her research interests include the development of attention, executive function, language acquisition, and categorization.

Audrey Snyder

Audrey Snyder graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a B.S. in psychology and a specialization in Child Development. She is currently pursuing an M.Ed. in School Counseling at Loyola University. Her research interests are in developing instructional activities to help children maintain attention and increase comprehension while in the classroom. She has experience working with children ages 1 to 12 in and out of the lab.

Freya Kaur

Freya Kaur is a third-year graduate student in the Applied Development Psychology program. She earned her B.A. in Psychology with a concentration in Child Psychology from Kent State University. Her research interests are to investigate the effects of attentional decay and mind wandering on learning of children. She is also interested in identifying instruction activities that help maintain attention and reduce mind wandering. She has 7+ years of experience working with children in Pre-K through 6th grade.

Praveen Kumaravelan

Praveen Kumaravelan is a first-year graduate student in the Applied Developmental Psychology program. He earned his M.A. in Developmental Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. At Teachers College, Praveen led a research project to test numerical cognition in preschool children using an online interface. His research interests encompass early cognitive development, with a focus on the intersection between executive functioning and learning. He has 3+ years of tutoring experience ranging from kindergarten to undergraduate studies.
